2.What is Second Life

Second Life is an online virtual world developed by Linden Lab which was launched on June 23, 2003. A number of free client programs called Viewers enable Second Life users, called Residents, to interact with each other through avatars. Residents can explore the world (known as the grid), meet other residents, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, and create and trade virtual property and services with one another. Second Life is intended for people aged 13 and over, and as of 2011 has more than 20 million registered user accounts.

Built into the software is a three-dimensional modeling tool based around simple geometric shapes that allows residents to build virtual objects. There is also a procedural scripting language, Linden Scripting Language, which can be used to add interactivity to objects. More complex three-dimensional sculpted prims (colloquially known as sculpties), textures for clothing or other objects, and animations and gestures can be created using external software. The Second Life Terms of Service provide that users retain copyright for any content they create, and the server and client provide simple digital rights management functions.

3.Which land is better for me?

You need to ask you self few questions and then you can decide which land is better for you

1. How may prims do you need
2. What land size do you need
3. Do you need residential only or commercial only or land with both abilities
4. How much would you like to spend per week or per month?
5. What type of control do you like to get.

If you answered all these questions then it will be easy for you to find the best land that fits you needs

4.What is a Prim? How many prims do I need?

A prim is the basic unit for building in SL, any object in SL consists of one prim or more, a standard prim size may vary from a very tiny size up to 10 x 10 x 10 (m) cubic, each prim has its own inventory, it may contain scripts, notecards or anything that can be found in SL.

5.I need more prims, what options do I have?

Since prims count is related to land area then the standard way to get more prims is by getting more land. (However Object bounce can be use to give more prims for the same area but the total amount of prims on the same region in fixed)

6.How to buy a land/parcel?

Comming soon.

7.How to deed a land to a group?

Comming soon.

8.How to run media on a parcel?

First make sure that you are allowed to run medial on your parcel, if yes then you need to do some setting in the land options to run the media

1. You need to put a working media URL in About Land -> Media -> Media URL [you can reach About Land by right clicking on the ground and clicking "About Land" or by left clicking on the land title on the top middle of you screen [SL window]
2. Choose the media type that you are using from About Land -> Media -> Media Type.
3. Set unique texture in About Land -> Media -> Replace Texture.
4. Create (or rezz) suitable prim (or object) that you want to display the media on it, and put the same texture that you used in the last step on the object face that you want to display the media.
5. press on the Play Media button on the lower right corner of your screen (or SL window)
6. If you want to use ready made TV or any other device that play media, then please refer to that device instructions to run it perfectly.

9.What is the covenant? Is it important?

Reading the covenant is very important step when you decide to buy land.

The covenant contains all the rules of the land, These rules are set by the land owner not buy Linden Labs, so they vary from land to land.

Make sure to read the covenant carefully, most landlords don't offer refunding and once you bought the land you have to respect the covenant.

In some cases (if you want to get full region) you may be able to put your own covenant.

10.Understand Object Bonus

Object bonus is a good way to get more prims for the same area size, we will describe it by example.

On normal region a parcel of 4096 sqm normally has 937 prims, if Object Bonus is set to 2, then each parcel has prims 2 times of the standard, so the parcel will get 1874 prims, if the Object Bonus is set to 1.5 then the parcel will get 1405 prims.

However normal region can not hold more than 15000 prims. So when the total count of prims on the region reach the maximum value (15000) then the region will be full and no one will be able to rezz any new object(prim).

11.I want to get full region (sim) what options are there?

In second life there are three types of regions, we summaries the deference of them in this table.

Region type Full Region    Homestead
Area (s.q.m.) 65536 65536
prims 20000 5000
Maximim avatars limit 100 20
Approximate Performance (Running Speed)
100% 25%

12.Is it right to say Sim?

The answer is yes and no.

The sim is a shortcut of Simulator which is the software that runs on the host computer in Linden Labs company, this software simulate the Region that you can see it using your viewer.

You are not able to buy or rent the simulator software, but you get get the region that this software create.

However mostly everyone in SL use the word Sim in referring to Region.

13.What is the deference between Parcel, Region (Sim) and estate?

The Parcel is a part of the land with a minimum size of 16 sqm and maximum size of 65536 sqm.

The Region (Sim) contains all the parcels on its area, it has land size of 65536 sqm. And its land can be divided into many parcels.

Estate is one or group of Regions which have the same covenant, please note that in this case Estate is technical word and it is not the same when you say Estate and you mean a company that offer some type of land services in SL.

14.How to change ground textures

To do that you need to be estate manager.

Each region has 4 ground textures can be reached from: World ? Region/Estate ? Ground Texture

Texture #1 is the lower texture, and #4 is the higher texture, you can set the maximum height for the lower texture (#1) and the minimum height for the higher texture (#4) for every corner of the region.
